Let's get something straight from the outset. When we're talking Battlestar Galactica, as far as I am concerned there is only one universe worthy of that marquee: The Original Series, created by Glen A. Larson and his team. Needless to say, I include within that definition any story that draws upon the original concepts and mythos, the characters and backstory, of that universe. Tom DeSanto and Brian Singer understand that universe, and would have brought us real Battlestar Galactica back in 2001. Richard Hatch, too. The actor, not the naked guy from Survivor. But that's not what the Sci-Fi Channel and Universal gave us. There's a term that's all the rage in Hollywood: "Re-imagined". Well, that's what we got. I won't get into it here, but suffice it to say that the "new Battlestar Galactica" bears very, very little resemblance to the original. And that's a pity, really, since we can always use positive messages and characters we can identify with and root for. We can always use shows like Battlestar Galactica is supposed to be: a depiction of hope and honor, with role model characters that actually appear to be from another place. The essays linked here were written beginning in early 2005 for Warrior's site Battlestar-Galactica.org, and deal with the shows, the producers, the fans, and many other aspects of the Battlestar Galactica universe - both real and fiction.
